Same Old Boring Good Habits

For college basketball fans, this is a great time of the year!

March Madness has arrived!

I officiated Div. I men’s college basketball for 25 years and retired in 2015. While I had the opportunity to work post-season tournaments, I was never assigned a March Madness game. It would have been a great experience, but I am still happy with my refereeing career.

I enjoy watching as many of the games as possible, especially because I get to see the other guys I worked with for many years.

If You Don’t Know Where to Start … Start Here

A few days ago, I attended a meeting where each of the participants was asked to make a short intro. We were given specific guidelines, such as provide our name or nickname, occupation, hobbies, and so on.

As usually happens during these introductions, some people stick to the format, and a few feel they should share their entire life story. In one case, a person told us about his many accomplishments and all the good stuff he’s done for the past 30 years.

Service More Than Expected

For the past couple of years, I have attended a men’s bible study program called That Man Is You (TMIY) sponsored by our parish, the Church of the Holy Spirit. We get an early start on Saturdays with the meetings beginning at 6:15 a.m.

Yes … it is early, but we are done before 8 a.m., which means we have the rest of the day to spend with our families.

No Tips Allowed

While traveling internationally to attend a business conference, I had an interesting experience when visiting an airport lounge. My flight was scheduled to leave at 1:30 am, and I decided to have a glass of wine before boarding the 15-hour flight back to the States.

A young gentleman was working the bar, and I ordered a white wine. Once he had served the glass of Chardonnay, I placed a tip in the local currency on the table and walked away.
