Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

Birch & Elm Consulting wants every visitor to be able to read this site and contact us, including people who use screen readers, magnification, keyboard-only navigation, speech input or reduced-motion settings. Accessibility is treated as part of building the site, not as a later fix.

2. The standard we work to

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We believe the site substantially meets that standard, and we test it as pages change.

3. What we have done

• Semantic HTML structure with a single, logical heading order on every page
• A visible “skip to main content” link as the first focusable element
• Keyboard access to every interactive element, with a clearly visible focus indicator
• Text and background colours checked for contrast at 4.5:1 or better for body copy
• Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images; decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology
• Form fields with permanently visible labels rather than placeholder-only labelling
• Full respect for the operating system's “reduce motion” preference, which disables all animation
• Layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels and at 200% zoom
• Language declared on every page, and no content that flashes or auto-plays

4. Known limitations

Some older article content may contain tables that are less comfortable on very small screens. Where an external service is embedded, we do not control its accessibility. We will always supply any page's content in an alternative format on request, at no charge.
